Shoot Like A Girl Update
We wanted to take an opportunity and say “Thanks” to all of our loyal clients, customers and supporters! Our company is six months old, and with your support and encouragement we have established Shoot Like A Girl as the premier company for women, dedicated to empowering women to participate in shooting sports with confidence.
In six short months we have put over 300 women through our Test Flights with approximately 30% of those shooters had never shot a bow before. That equates to new archers and growth in the number of ladies shooting. For those unfamiliar with our Test Flights, they are our traveling bow show, where women can actually shoot bows in draw lengths and weights that fit them from eight different manufacturers – and these aren’t the kids’ bows, these are serious bows for serious women! We have several compound bows from BowTech, Hoyt, Mathews, Limbsaver, Athens, Diamond, and Alpine; and we have recurve bows from Lancaster Archery Supply. We expect two more bows companies in our lineup for next year!
Our logo apparel is a huge success too. We are thrilled to see all the pictures from events posted on archery forums of ladies and girls wearing our shirts, hats and shooter towels. As hunting season is gearing up, we have had an increase in our internet sales! Clothes that fit are the perfect and needed gear for any hunt.
We have enjoyed meeting everyone at the events we have attended: the NFAA World Archery Festival; the NFAA Indoor Nationals; the IBO shoot in Bedford, IN; ASA shoots in London, KY, Metropolis, IL and Columbus, GA; the Deer and Turkey expo in Birmingham, AL; and we look forward to seeing you in Franklin, TN and Herrin, IL at their hunting expos. We also want to thank NFAA, IBO and ASA for their support of our company and concept. At Shoot Like A Girl we are dedicated to empowering women to participate in shooting sports with confidence.

2010 |
01/29/2010 by Karen Butler
To all of our Shoot Like A Girl Family - What a wonderful year it was for us in 2009, as we strove to achieve our mission statement to empower women to participate in shooting sports with confidence! Thanks to your support, we have quickly moved from a “good idea” to a viable influence in the Archery Industry. Last year we put just under 400 women through our Test Flights. Our Test Flights are designed to give women the opportunity to shoot bows from the top manufacturers that are in a draw length and weight that fit the average gal. This is a once in a life time opportunity, and thankfully ladies took advantage of it. We have had the pleasure of helping women choose the bow that is right for them. We have had confirmed bow sales, and we also increased the number of ladies who hunt. Also exciting, is the fact that of those women who took advantage of our test flights, about 35% of them were brand new, never shot a bow before archers! Most every one of them had the same reaction after getting set up to properly and safely take the shot….they shoot….they grin (ear to ear)…and say…”Can I do it AGAIN!”. As those of us who already shoot know, once you shoot, you’re hooked! It was such a thrill and honor to empower so many women with choice in equipment. In 2010, our lineup is even bigger, and includes bows from Anderson Bow Company, Athens Archery, BowTech, Darton, Diamond, Elite, Hoyt, Limbsaver, Martin, Mathews, New Breed Archery, Pearson, and PSE!Shoot Like A Girl attended nine events last year, in 2010, with the help of our corporate sponsors we will attend many more events! We are very selective in who we partner with as corporate sponsors, and pleased that we are now partnered with Hunter Safety System, SHE Outdoor Apparel, Limbsaver, Elite Archery, Game Plan Gear, Easton, and ASA. Corporations who wish to join us in our effort to empower more women to participate in shooting sports should contact me at karen.butler@shootlikeagirl.com.
Shoot Like A Girl helped many women find hunting clothing that fit! Our online store features manufacturers who recognize the unique needs of women’s hunting clothing. This year in addition to the brands we carry, Browning, Manzella, Medalist, Prois, Rocky, SHE Outdoor Apparel, and Sporthill, we will be adding two new clothing lines Haley Vine and Rivers West. All of these clothing manufacturers have products that enhance our performance in the field! We are always on the lookout for the next greatest piece of gear to add to our selections.
Shoot Like A Girl also gave back this year. We donated money to Breast Cancer Research through the sales of the Pink Victory Arrows; we gave several hats and t-shirts to non-profit organizations as door prizes and give-a-ways, and supported our Troops with a Test Flight at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. In 2010 we are focusing our efforts on a charity shoot, 3D for CP (Cerebral Palsy); and towards breast cancer research in honor of a dear friend who is currently fighting that battle, but winning!
Shoot Like A Girl had the opportunity to present a seminar at the Archery Trade Associations Trade Show called, Target Women and Expand Your Business. This was our way of showing our commitment to helping the industry understand this fastest growing segment of archers…women! We had a hunt filmed by the Pursuit Channel; where we were able to get our message out, “ladies who choose to hunt, can hunt”! We also were the runner up for the Start-up Business of the Year for North Alabama - our hope is to win in 2010! For all of you who have supported us this past year, a huge THANKS; we look forward to seeing you in 2010!
Sincerely, Karen Butler President, SLG2, Inc
Shoot Like A Girl (SLG², Inc) is a company dedicated to empowering women to participate in shooting sports with confidence. We do that in two ways - through service and sales. With the help of our corporate sponsors, Hunter Safety System, SHE Outdoor Apparel, Limbsaver, Elite Archery, Game Plan Gear, Easton, and ASA; and the fourteen bow manufacturers we have partnered with; we travel around the country to provide women a once in a lifetime opportunity to try multiple bows in draw weights and lengths that fit them. We also provide an educational service on their web site, www.shootlikeagirl.com, with information about shooting sports, and a women friendly forum. Our sales (also a service) is that we combine products that enhance women’s abilities to participate in shooting sports, with a huge focus on one stop shopping for hunting clothing specifically designed to fit women. The clothes are offered at competitive pricing, and allow women to side by side compare products. All of these services and shopping opportunities help us reach our goal of empowering women to participate in shooting sports with confidence!
NEW SPONSORS
Shoot Like A Girl is teaming with manufacturers to sponsor our Test Flights for 2010. In 2009, we conducted nine test flights across the United States and introduced close to 400 women to bows from the top manufacturers (compound bows from BowTech, Diamond, Hoyt, Mathews, Alpine Archery, Limbsaver, Martin, and Athens Archery and recurve bows from Lancaster Archery Supply). Of these 400 shooters, 35% were brand new shooters! To continue this success, we will partner with manufacturers, and with their assistance will travel to more events and offer even more women the opportunity to shoot bows and test equipment from top manufacturers in the archery and outdoor industry! As part of Shoot Like A Girl’s commitment to our customers and clients, we will not accept sponsorships, or endorse any product that we do not believe in or would not use ourselves. Please read our product reviews, visit our sponsors’ web sites from our links, and support them to show them your appreciation for joining us in our commitment to empowering women to participate in the shooting sports with confidence! If you would like to sponsor Shoot Like A Girl, email karen.butler@shootlikeagirl.com.

Quiet Time With Your Family: Why More Families Should Shoot Together
The divorce rate is staggering in our country. In a quick Google search, I found that 3.6 couples per 1000 were divorced in 2007, and most sites quote a current divorce rate of 40% to 50% in the United States. I wondered why this rate was so high, and found that according to ezinearticles.com, the reasons are lack of communication, arguments and infidelity. The good news is however, that all of the articles on improving family relationships indicated that families who spend quality time and quality quiet time together were less likely to get divorced. I have to agree, because recently my husband, Todd and I had the chance to spend some quality time together sitting in a double tree stand scouting for deer; and this peaceful time together was spectacular. Maybe if more families shot and/or hunted together, we could combat this staggering divorce statistic.
I think if you ask men, you will find very few that never want their wives to intrude on their shooting and/or hunting time to themselves, but I believe (and hope) the majority of men, would welcome their wives to join their passion for shooting and/or hunting…or vice versa if the wife is the shooter/huntress! There is something to be said for the shared excitement of shooting a good score or killing the big buck. My own experience recently at Bosco Lodge in Monroe, LA was heightened by the fact that Todd was there to support me and encourage me to do my best. I was thrilled when he got to my buck before I did, and was shouting, “Excellent Shot…Excellent Shot.” He was truly happy for me, and I was thrilled that he was so proud. Let’s face it, as independent as we think we are, in most of us, there remains a primal desire for approval from those we love…well, it’s that way for me anyhow.
A few days later, we got t he reverse experience, while Todd hunted and I watched. Todd and I had Casey, (our baby) German Shorthair Pointer with Chuck Tash, a bird dog trainer in Alabama. It was time to pick her up from school. Todd was excited to see her, but more excited to hunt over her. I got to be the picture taker and follow the journey of the two of them as man and dog were both extremely happy. I was thrilled to be there to share in that joy.
In reflection of my hunt, and looking back at all the wonderful pictures, the one I value most is the one attached, taken from my phone….it is Todd and I, sitting in a tree stand, in the peace and quiet of nature anticipating that big buck! Could having a great relationship be that simple, that we just need to take time to together and share in each other’s joy. Well, if it is, then families who shoot and/or hunt together are definitely on the right track for long, happy and healthy relationships!
